Who is a candidate? Laser hair reduction generally works best on patients with light skin and dark hair, however, our equipment provides settings for all skin types. We recommend scheduling a consultation so that we can determine if you would be a good candidate.
How does it work? Laser hair reduction uses a pulsated light to reduce hair by targeting the pigment inside hair follicles without damaging the surrounding skin. This inhibits the growth of future hair. It typically takes several laser hair treatments to provide an extended hair-free period.
How long does it take? The number of sessions varies for each individual. We generally recommend a series of four to six treatments. Each treatment should be spaced four to six weeks apart.
What should I expect before and after each treatment? We will prescribe a topical numbing cream if deemed necessary that should be applied at least 20 minutes prior to the treatment. Any hair that is to be treated should be shaved prior to the treatment as well. A cooling gel is applied to the skin and then the procedure begins by appling the laser to the skin and treating the area. After the treatment some mild swelling and redness may occur. Extra care should be taken to protect skin from sun exposure during treatments.
Does it hurt? Some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, therefore, we take every precaution to make the experience as comfortable as possible for you. This could include prescription creams to increase comfort during a session.
